BENEFIT FOR MONTREAL'S 5TH ANNUAL ANARCHIST BOOKFAIR
with DaZoque!, Dragana, Norman Nawrocki, Ivy, & The Anarchist Choir
Montréal's 5th Annual Anarchist Bookfair and the Festival of Anarchy kicks
off with a benefit night of East European, Quebecois, anarchist music
featuring DaZoque!, Dragana, Norman Nawrocki, Ivy, and the debut of the
city's first Anarchist Choir
Thursday, April 29, 8:30pm, at El Salon, 4388 boul St-Laurent. Tix: $8/$5.
The Montreal Anarchist Bookfair- Canada's largest - takes place May 15 and
16th. The parallel 'Festival of Anarchy' begins with the April 29th
benefit. For more info: http://anarchistbookfair.taktic.org

DaZoque! , Montreal's reknowned east-european flavoured strings,
beats & electronica ensemble includes underground music scene veteran
violinists Norman Nawrocki (Rhythm Activism, Bakunin's Bum) and Minda
Bernstein (the Bagg Street Klezmer Band), percussionist Philip
Hornsey (Ramasutra, Bradyworks), guitarist/electronica meister
Gregory Anderson Smith, cellist Helene Boissinoit (Tomas Jensen,
Jérome Minière) and bassist Alec McElcheran (Steve Rowe, Mike
Evin).

Dragana, a women's acappella ensemble, blends traditional vocal
techniques from Eastern Europe with a contemporary sensibility. They
sing in Bosnian, Bulgarian, Croatian, Georgian, Macedonian, Romanian
& Russian, and perform ancient village duets and modern arrangements
of taunting songs. Their sound is exotic, the chords often dissonant,
the melodies strangely beautiful. Formed in 1985, the six voice
ensemble (Ingrid Birker, Beatrice Cale, Cathy Watt, Susan Palmer,
Sylvia Rack, Josée Blanchet & Teresa Fedeli) has just released their
debut CD.

Ivy , for the last 10 year, has formed part of the cultural resistance in
Quebec. His wild folk music performance is presented through collections
of songs whose goal is to connect the audience's libido and their
intellect. He'll be accompanied by André Daneau on harmonica and rhythmic
footwork.

Norman Nawrocki, Montreal's one and only anarcho author/actor/musician/sex
advocate, will deliver more provocative & joyous rhymes & beats and
accompany himself with his amplified, treated violin & viola, a sampler,
drum machine, and assorted pedals and toys. He's currently recording his
first, solo cd,'Duck Work,' to be released later this Summer.

The Montreal Anarchist Choir, a multi-voiced men and women's ensemble,
will make their debut performance at the benefit. Dragana and DaZoque!
will also perform joint numbers for the first time.
