Martha Ackelsberg will speak about the experiences of
women in the 1936-9 Spanish Civil War, which led to
the formation of the anarchist-feminist group Mujeres
Libres. Ackelsberg, a professor of political science
at Smith College, is the author of 'Free Women of
Spain: Anarchism and the Struggle for the Emancipation
of Women,' the first book in English on the Mujeres
Libres. This will be the second presentation in the
CUNY GC 2003 Anarchist Lecture series. (sponsored by
freeCUNY, and the Center for Culture, Technology and Work)
