> From: "Workers Control Conference" <workerscontrol-A-jura.org.au>
Thursday 13th November 7pm at Jura Books [440 Parramatta Rd, Petersham]
(NOT 6th November as previously advertised)
Dear Friend
At the final plenary of the Workers’ Control Conference, many people were
keen to organise a series of follow-up forums and, perhaps, one-day
conferences. This final plenary called a meeting to organise these. It
was originally planned for Thursday 6th November, however, this has been
put-off a week to Thursday 13th November.

Please find below a list of some of the suggested topics for further
forums.

We look forward to seeing you there.

Suggested topics for future forums
(Apologies for missing some comments. A full list of the
suggestions made
at the conference will be distributed at the meeting).

Note: Many of the suggestions are relatively vague. It
would be good if
people could bring specific suggestions for speakers and
topics to
Thursday’s meeting.

- Workshops by radical unionists talking about current
experiences
and tactics.
- Historical workshops presented in a way that puts the
events in
context and draws out concepts that are useful for today.
- Martin Kingham (since he didn’t show for the conference)
- Examples of recent successes of radical unionists.
- Superannuation funds.
- Talks on social aspects of workers’ lives
- Self-management in all spheres of life: both within and
beyond the
workplace.
- Speakers from/about industries where women are
predominant.
- Events with a social element, such as film night with food
and
drinks, or food and drinks before/after forums.
- How the nature of work has changed. How culture has
changed. The
impact of the media, technology and consumer culture on
class consciousness.
- The working poor and unemployed unions in the 3rd World
and
Developing Nations
- Why even work when in props up the capitalist system?
- Something more on ‘Australia at Work’
<snip>
- Forums and research about more current experiences,
inviting
active militants to talk. Organising discussion groups
meetings for rank
and file activists.

Other suggested issues for discussion at the meeting:

- How often should we hold the forums?
- Where should we hold the forums?
- How should we advertise the forums?
- How will we fund the advertising for forums?
- What name should we give to the forums/group organising
the forums?
- What does the group (very broadly) stand for or what is it
’s
purpose?
- Should we organise one/more one-day conferences? What
topics?
