Greetings to All Pacific Northwest Leonard Peltier Supporters,
Starting in 1993 the Northwest Leonard Peltier Support Network (NWLPSN)
functioned as a network of NW Leonard Peltier Support Groups and individual
supporters of Leonard Peltier. Its purpose was to keep the case of Leonard
Peltier out in the public and to build active support for Leonard Peltier.
In the ten years that the NWLPSN was active it organized or helped to
organize 60 marches and rallies (Portland, Olympia, Tacoma, Seattle,
Everett, Mt. Vernon, Bellingham and at the U.S./Canadian Border. It also
held many educational programs including many video showings and it helped
new LPSGs get started. Due to the lost by retirement, in the case of one
person, co-founder Leroy Mills his passing from this world, and the bad
health of others the, NWLPSN has not been active in the last few years
Because of the lack of activity of the NWLPSN public expression of
support of Leonard Peltier in the northwest has fallen off. There is still
the annual Tacoma Peltier March and Rally held in February each year that is
organized by the Tacoma LPSG and the annual "Indigenous People's Day" event
at the U.S./Canadian border which for the last two years has been organized
by the Native People's Alliance with Allies and Friends. Outside of these
two annual events there has only been a few other events for Leonard and in
some areas there has been none.
Leonard Peltier's case is extremely important, not just because of
Leonard and the person that Leonard is, having continuously stood strong
over the years, but also because of all the things connected to what happen
and the reason behind it and the fact that the government has gone so far in
denying Leonard his rights. Leonard's case shows how far the government
will go in
it's political interests and in the interests of the corporations who wanted
Native land. Some may say that what we speak of was the reality back in the
1970's, but as long as Leonard is in prison that reality has not changed one
bit.
There is one other reason why we need to do all that we can now for
Leonard. Leonard's health keeps deteriorating because of the prison
conditions he is forced to live with. We want Leonard freed before he passes
on from this world.
The purpose of this list is to build support for Leonard throughout our
region, to give active support for the events that groups organize like the
annual "Indigenous People's Day" at the U.S./Canadian border organized by
the Native People's Alliance With Allies and Friends and the annual February
Tacoma Peltier March and Rally organized by the Tacoma LPSG and any other
Peltier events in our region, to share resources to help in our efforts and
to give up-dates on Leonard's case and on the events.
This is not a general discussion list. There are many general discussion
lists out there that fulfill that need. This is not a general posting list
for everything that is going on in different struggles. This is not a list
to air out people's personal differences with other people. This is a
focused list for Leonard Peltier and related Native issues. We hope that
everyone who joins this list has enough respect for Leonard and the support
work to honor the request we have made. Also, we wish to keep this list
focused so that it does not get overloaded and becomes a drain on the people
on this list
This list is open to everyone who supports Leonard Peltier, as is the
support work. There are no leaders but there are organizers and respected
advisors. Each local group has the right to make their own decisions, but if
there is no local organized support in an area, those outside of that area
have the right to help try to create active support in that area. As was the
policy of the old NWLPSN, the following policy should be for this list:

Everyone has as much power over as much work as they are willing to do as
long as it is in the direction approved by Leonard and does not directly
conflict with the work of local groups.

For those of you who only wish to just receive event up-dates from the
Tacoma LPSG please send a message to:
Tacoma-lpsg@ojibwe.us, and request to be place on the Tacoma LPSG up-date
list.
