Anti-Capitalist Movement Several hundreds of protesters turned
out on May 15th to mark the Day of Defiance against BC's
Neo-Liberal government. The morning of the occasion was marked
by direct actions targetting and shutting down London Drugs, The
Times Colonist, Check6 TV, and the provincial Legilsature.
The Times Colonist, Victoria's daily newspaper, was targetted along
with Chek6 TV for their cheerleading of the government's
right-wing, capitalist agenda. London Drugs was targetted because
the Chief Financial Officer of the company is a Liberal-appointed
District Health Adminstrator, and the company makes massive
donations to the BC Liberal party. The Legislature was targeted for
obvious reasons, and was the subject of the largest direct action
presence.

Protesters arrived early in the morning, and barricaded the five
main entrances to the legislature, preventing vehicles and slowing
down staff from entering. One of the entrances was blockaded by an
anarchist contingent, and another anarchist / and assorted
"anti-authoritarian" contingent roamed on the Legislature grounds
attempting to further disrupt entry to the building.

Several confrontations emerged when large numbers of police
showed up, and attempted to pepper spray, grab, and arrest several
individuals. All those targeted were succesfully unarrested on the
spot.

Later in the day, a contingent gathered at Centennial Square, split
into two divergent marches, and snake-marched throughout
downtown Victoria before arriving at the Legislature to block off the
main public street entirely, providing a free lunch to those in
attendance.

The media, Chek6 Television especially, predictably featured some
reporting filled with wild accusations, half-truths, and straight up
lies. For a good example, the following link is to a Chek6 article on
the event, entitled "'Rebels without a clue' storm legislature":
