Dear Friends:
This upcoming March a conference will be held in Hamilton, Ontario
that will explore viable community alternatives to contemporary, North
American social and economic models. Such alternatives may include
anarchist models of organization, and other non-hierarchical,
oppression-free formats for directing social change. The emphasis will
be on alternative, politically-resistant lifestyles that draw their
strength from open, consensus and community-based organizing.
The conference will attempt to evaluate and facilitate a sharing of
empowerment strategies that are currently being utilized by communities
across Canada and Quebec. Such strategies may include local, earth,
animal and people friendly farming, community free-schooling,
resistance art and the development of trade skills (including,
carpentry, pottery, weaving, metal work, etc.) that allow for
independence from the nin-five labour model that many people in our
culture feel unable to unparticipate in.
The format of the conference will reflect the values that are explored
throughout it, and thus, will be largely discussion and
participant-focused, with possible workshops ranging from how to use
our society?s ?waste? to construct personal art that participants can
take home, to workshops that teach consensus-based, decision-making
skills. It is the hope of the organizing collective that these
workshops will help to encourage the exchange of knowledge between
peoples that practice politically resistant lifestyles (whether they
are explicitly identified as such, or not) and those who wish to learn
about alternatives to consumer-based lifestyles. Other contributers,
such as academics, professionals and political leaders will also be
welcomed to share and participate, but the emphasis will be on
practical ways that freedom can be embodied, as opposed to theoretical
formulations on how we can get there.
In addition to these alternatives, radical topics such as love,
compassion and nonviolent revolution will be discussed to help
determine what role they may play in creating a better world both in
the now, and in the now of our children?s children.
We welcome you to join us in this timely and important, fun and
spontaneous exploration of how to make possible freedom, direct
democracy, and through them, positive, community development.
If you would like more information about this event, please feel free
to visit www.anasvillage.org or e-mail us at admin@anasvillage.org.

Love,

The Ana?s Village Collective

p.s. Where does the name ?Ana?s Village? come from?
The name Ana?s Village originally comes from the word ?anarchism?
which refers to an economic and social system based on mutual liberty,
egalitarianism and a respect for diversity (Ana?s name coming from the
first three letters of anarchism). However, Ana also represents a young
girl who symbolizes our collective children, our future and hope. The
purpose of the symposium is to explore the type of village that we
would like to create for Ana - hopefully one based on justice, peace,
happiness and responsible freedom.

WE ARE STILL ACCEPTING SUBMISSIONS FOR PRESENTATIONS SO PLEASE CHECK
OUT ANASVILLAGE.ORG BEFORE FEBRUARY 20, 2003 FOR MORE INFORMATION!
