On 22nd March last at the end of a spontaneous march against the war
through the centre of town, the Federazione Anarchica Torinese-FAI
walked to Piazza Castello, to the former royal residence of the Savoy
family, Palazzo Madama. There, from the balcony which overlooks the
monumental staircase, the tricolour flag of warmongering Italy made way
for the red and black flag of the anarchists and the rainbow flag of
peace. Half an hour later, the Digos (special police) intervened and
took the names and addresses of the comrades who were shouting
anti-militarist slogans from the balcony. They also shouted slogans for
the general strike against the war and calling for mass desertions. The
riot cops surrounded those anarchists remaining on the street below in
support of their comrades in action. Around an hour later the comrades
rejoined the march with the other demonstrators who were holding a
sit-in outside the city prefect's office.

On 12th December the first notices started to arrive, informing those
involved that they were under investigation for offending the national
flag. As far as we know, four comrades are involved: Giovanni, Emilio,
Maria and Michele.

Arriving just a few weeks after the investigation notice served on
Marco of the FAT for "offending the armed forces", the intimidation by
the forces of (dis)order against the FAI in Turin continues. The best
response can only be further anti-militarist work. On Saturday 13th
December, on the occasion of the second of two days of
counter-information and struggle on state killings and repression, a
large banner reading "When your fatherland calls, answer 'No, Sir'!"
was hung outside Palazzo Madama.
