Forward far and wide: Below is updated information on the August 29-31st consulta
taking place in Pittsburgh, PA. This consulta is being called to
plan for the Nov. 20-21st FTAA summit in Miami.
We encourage you to register for consulta in advance- email
pog@mutualaid.org While you can register at the consulta, a
simple email with your number of people, general region, and
contact info would help us better plan for housing, food and
logistics, among other things. A number of awesome affinity
groups and individuals have registered from a wide region of
the country, but we need greater participation to reflect the
numbers there will be in Miami. The more groups that are
represented the more the consulta can accomplish. If you're
trying to make it, but lack a ride please email
rideboard@heartofdarkness.org and we'll see what we can do.
Thanks much. POG

Information on sessions and process:
The below information applies to the Saturday sessions POG
is facilitating. It will also be explained at the Sat. morning
orientation. The complete consulta schedule is available on our
website www.organizepittsburgh.org and

10:30 am – 1:30 pm @ Project 1877 Padded Bloc

This discussion is for those taking part, interested in, or
seeking more information about the Padded Bloc in Miami.
This is not a general debate on whether a PB should or should
not happen. This discussion will center on some of the
logistics of the contingent, objectives, and possible guidelines
for the group, materials, and related issues. This is also meant
to bring folks up to date on the organizing that has occurred.

3 pm – 6:30 pm @ Project 1877 Disrupting the FTAA –
discussion on the different proposals for direct action in Miami

Go around of the affinity groups represented.

15min- there will be a presentation on the tactical situation in
What is known and unknown regarding numbers, maps of
Miami, police, fences, the schedule of events, start times,
permits, and more.
15min Q and A: This is time for people to ask questions about
the info presented and add any relevant info.

For the next 3 hours we will discuss possible actions in
Miami. Proposals will be taken and addressed in order. Our
hope is that the affinity groups present can come to some type
of consensus on what types of general strategy and tactics
can be utilized at the meetings. We encourage affinity groups
to bring proposals to this session. Members of AG’s
coming to consensus on general positions of what they want
to see or not see BEFORE the consulta will greatly improve
the discussion and chance of reaching some shared
understandings. Although we recognize that no “grand
plan” may come out of this we feel that having these face
to face dialogues are CRITICAL if we are to achieve our goals
of disrupting the FTAA. At the least groups will be able to
gauge the sentiments of other groups, make the contacts
necessary to pull off cluster actions, and let others know any
concerns they have about the summit. Additionally, reaching
agreement on a framework will allow us to avoid having our
actions determined by liberal ngo’s in Miami.
Decision Making Process:
First we will ask for all proposals. We will then go through the
proposals in order.
This is a time to ask clarifying questions about the proposal.
This is NOT the time to speak for or against the proposal.
We will then ask for an early indicator of support: If there is
unanimous support at this point the proposition has passed.
If there is not unanimous support we will begin discussion of
the proposal. This is the time to debate and discuss anything
you want about the proposal.
When the time seems right the facilitator will ask for a vote on
the proposal.

Speaking order:
There will be 3 stack-takers (ST), one each for those
identifying as women, trans, and men. To say something
people will raise their hands while looking at the corresponding
ST. The ST will look at you and give you the number you are in
the stack. You should then show that number back to them to
confirm. We will go in order of hands raised, giving equal
weight to the three stakes, and within each stack priority will
be given to those who haven’t already spoken.

Additional notes:
Rumors are often strategically disseminated by the authorities
and the corporate media. We urge people not to fall prey to the
state's attempts to discourage people from disrupting the
ministerial meetings. With that in mind, one of the goals for
the consulta will be to present credible information about the
Ministerial planning and the security measures under

Someone heavily involved in the anti-capitalist organizing in
Miami will be attending the consulta. We're hopping this
person can bring folks up to speed on the local situation.
Because they are traveling a great distance for the benefit of
all we will be passing the hat to help defray travel costs.

If you have any special needs or suggestions for the consulta
please let us know. None of this is set in stone and we are
willing to consider .
