Palazzo Giusso, University of Naples "L'Orientale"

On the re-opening of Palazzo Giusso, following an occupation of
about a month, we discovered the nth act of repression against
us - the Anarchist Studies Centre was barred with a security
door. Following our request for the door to be opened, the
University replied by sending a squad of 12 special services
police (DIGOS), who are at the moment ransacking inside and
outside in the search for other "clues" they can add to those
gathered during the long search they carried out at the end of
the occupation.

We invite all comrades to mobilize to give a firm response to
this violent censorship which we are undergoing.

Today (28 April 2003) Palazzo Giusso was re-opened. After 24
days of occupation in protest at the war, we quickly saw the
repressive response of the academic authorities - the rooms of
the students' movements (of the Collettivo dell'Orientale and
the Anarchist Studies Centre) which have been occupied since the
'60s were forced open, searched and then sealed with security

After a group of students had asked the rectorate by phone for
the keys to these doors following the re-opening of the
building, around 10 special service cops (DIGOS) arrived at the
building and entered the offices, something which in theory is
possible only upon authorization from the rector, Ciriello.

The sole response of the State and the academic authorities to
the long protest which involved Italy's universities, was the
closure and sealing of the rooms where comrades, students and
workers have always met, talked and organized themselves.

The aim of this repressive action is that of limiting and
crushing whatever spaces and political freedom are enjoyed by
those who struggle daily against reforms, war, the bosses'
repression and the present state of things.

We believe that the closure of the only place where politics are
carried out in the Orientale University is a typical act of
fascist regimes which have always tried to impede the freedom to
express disagreement, repressing with force as they are unable
to provide political responses.

If Rector Ciriello and the police hope that by simply sealing
the occupied rooms they will be able to stop our struggle, they
are making a big mistake ... we will free other spaces.

We will be immediately continuing with our struggle, for the
re-appropriation of spaces, against university reforms, against
the war and the imperialist peace, for a new beginning to
