SUCCESS OF THE GENERAL STRIKE CALLED BY THE USI-AIT AND THE RANK AND FILE
UNIONISM, ON THE 18TH OCTOBER.

On the 18th October a 24 hour national general strike has been called
together in Italy by the USI-AIT (Unione Sindicale Italiana) and another 4
"rank and file unions" (Cub/RdB, Confederazione Cobas, Sin-Cobas,
Slai-Cobas).

The strike has been convoked firstly against the war and with a class
vindicative platform against the compromising unionism, against the politics
of Berlusconi government, against racist laws, temporary and casual work,
for social and union rights.

Also the CGIL called their strike on the same day, but the rank and file
unionism, underlining the differences between its class platform and the
ambiguities of the institutional and compromising positions of the CGIL,
organised its own regional demonstrations, separated from the CGIL.

The demonstrations called by the USI and the other rank and file unions
gathered together around 300,000 workers throughout the Italian squares.

The USI-AIT organised these mobilisations together with the other rank and
file unions but also did its independent partial demonstrations, that were
attended by comrades coming from a wide area (Milano, Bergamo, Savona,
Trieste, Firenze, Massa-Carrara, Bologna, Ancona, etc.).

This of the 18th of October has been just a stage in a bigger struggle
against the war and for the social and union rights that the USI-AIT wants
to carry out, requesting to the IWA for the extension of this fight to other
countries also.

Brotherly Anarcho-sindicalist Greetings,

The USI-AIT Secretary

Gianfranco Careri.
