Report from Federação Anarquista Gaúcha (FAG)
about the activities parallel to the WSF

Comrades,

We are publishing in this report the parallel events in which the Federação
Anarquista Gaúcha will be involved during the dates that social-democracy
meets in their World Social Forum. In the next issue of "Opinião Anarquista"
(Anarchist Opinion), we will circulate a text with a more profound analysis
about the WSF and the forces at play in its third edition. For the time
being, here is some information.

POLITICAL-IDEOLOGICAL LEVEL

Activities:
*2nd Anarchist Days - 24th and 27th of January 2003, in Porto Alegre. -
GENERAL THEME: "Neither the end of history, nor the death of utopias: the
rebirth of Popular Resistance in Latin America and the alternative struggles
in Brazil" (complete programme below). This even will be organized and
coordinated by FAG, FAU (Federación Anarquista Uruguaya) and Luta
Libertária, (Libertarian Struggles), a collective from São Paulo.

*Plenary of the Forum on Organized Anarchism (FOA), 23rd and 24th January,
2003 - this is a meeting of the organizations that participated in the first
FOA in Belém do Pará, and also of groups and organisations that already are
or have the intention of participating in social issues and that believe in
the political organization of anarchists.

Meeting of International Libertarian Solidarity (ILS/SIL), 27th January
2003 - a meeting of anarchist organizations affiliated to ILS/SIL, from
several parts of the world, that practise mutual aid and are socially
inserted together with grassroots movements.

At the moment, we are collecting funds to carry out these activities.
Especially for the 2nd Anarchist Days, we need money to print posters and
pamphlets, to pay the rental of the hall, to rent sound systems, etc.

*On 18th November we had a party to celebrate the 7th anniversary of FAG. We
thank all who attended the party and who are contributing to the progress of
organized anarchism in the province of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil.

*We also had a "galeto" in Gravataí on 24th November. Thanks to all who
participated!

*Other activities to raise funds are being looked, and soon we will be
sending invitations to these.

ON A SOCIAL LEVEL
A regional meeting of rubbish collectors/recyclers on 17th December 2002, in
CPERS, in Porto Alegre. We participate in the Movement of
collectors/recyclers, and, as rank and file militants, we are helping to
organise this meeting, that will bring together the rubbish collecting
associations in Rio do Sul. The intention is to discuss the actions and
struggles for 2003, as well as proposals for the National Meeting from 19th
to 23rd January in Caxias do Sul.

Meeting of Autonomous Grassroots Latin American Organizations - 25th and
26th January 2003 in Porto Alegre. This Meeting is being organized by the
Committees of Popular Resistance of Rio Sul and by some grassroots
organizations of Uruguay. They will be summoning all the popular grassroots
organizations (and not political or ideological leftwing groups, even if
anarchists) that believe in the practice popular struggles (as opposed to
"bureaucratic struggles"), class independence (against the dependence on
governments, companies, parties, churches, and everything outside the
grassroots movement), horizontal democracy (against the vertical and the
authoritarian democracy) and solidarity (against the corporativism and the
fragmentation of the oppressed class).
