CALL FOR A TORONTO ANARCHIST/ANTI-CAPITALIST ANTIWAR CONVERGENCE

This is a call for cohesive anti-authoritarian participation in the coming

antiwar convergence (This Wednesday the 18th --
see http://ontario.indymedia.org/front.php3?article_id=13800 ) in the
short term, and the creation of an anti-authoritarian antiwar convergence
in the long term.

Current antiwar ?action' in Toronto (and indeed most of the country) tends

towards a simplistic request for ?peace,' without asking the important 
question of what, exactly, ?peace' means in a society that is based on war

and racism. Not to mention there's shockingly little imagination going in
to it.

Witness the typical scripted marches, filled with rhetoric such as "Say no

to war!" If all it took to stop war was to go out and tell people you
think it's a bad idea, then we'd be set. But we're setting the bar a
little low if the litmus test for a movement is how many people can go out
and publicly admit, "yup, war's a bad idea," because many of society's
warmongers have said the same thing.

And while mass public rallies are important, they simply aren't enough
(nor are they fun enough!).

Many have expressed these same thoughts... it's time we got together and
did something to actually confront the Empire which is the backdrop of
power and constant societal warfare for the current ?new' war.

As a start, I'd like to suggest those of us who can attend the first
antiwar convergence meeting on Wednesday, since, hey, it means we don't
need to book another meeting space right away, and the convergence could
also benefit from an active anarchist/anti-capitalist contingent right
from the start.

Other than that... what? Should we start Another Listserv (oh joy)?... 
thinking about having our own meeting at some point would be a good
thing...
