Following the no-tax campaign launched by Karnataka farmers
opposing the removal of subsidy to electricity and increase in
tariffs, the state Government tried to coerce farmers to pay all
arrears in lieu of replacing new transformers in place of failed
ones.

Farmers facing bankruptcy due to fall in prices of all agricultural
produce because of cheap imports have decided to repair the failed
transformers themselves and monitor electricity themselves
without paying taxes.

This movement of direct action was launched on 27th November
2002 from the northern drought-prone district of Bagalkot in
Karnataka.

KRRS has warned the Government of the State that it would hoist
the flag of a parallel governemnt 0n 30th January 2003[Gandhiji's
Death Anniversary] if the Government doesnot mend its ways.
