This coming January, three members of the Ontario Coalition Against Poverty
-- John Clarke, Gaetan Heroux and Stefan Pilipa -- are going to trial,
charged with "participating in a riot", "counseling to participate in a
riot," and "counseling to assault police." The charges, relating to an
anti-poverty demonstration in Toronto, involve potential jail terms of two
to five years.
Meanwhile, local activists are also facing several trials, as well as
restrictive conditions, fines, and potential jail terms, for their
involvement in organizing resistance -- against police brutality and
poverty, the visit of Benjamin Netanyahu to Concordia University, or the
Summit of the Americas protests in Quebec City, to name a few.
This solidarity assembly will bring together various groups and movements
fighting the criminalization of resistance, as we together share collective
strategies of self-defense against repressive governments, courts and
police.
Organized by the Anti-Capitalist Convergence (CLAC).
Endorsers: le Comité des sans-emploi, the No One Is Illegal Campaign, le
Collectif Opposé à la brutalité policière (COBP), the Northeast Federation
of Anarcho-Communists (NEFAC), Quebec Public Interest Research Group (QPIRG)
-- McGill & Concordia, and others. To add your endorsement, please get in
touch ASAP.
