Genova, 4 dicembre 2002

The anti-globalization protestors arrested recently
were all released yesterday, Tuesday, after examining
magistrates found no reason to keep them in prison.
The cases against them however, have not been dropped.

However, it was announced this morning that a further
23 demonstrators at Genoa last year are under
investigation and the Digos (political police) have
been arresting and questioning those under suspicion
since 4.00am today, Wednesday. Some of the 23 have been
arrested and taken to prison, others are under house
arrest. The charges include "devastation and sacking",
however on this occasion the charge of "subversive association"
used against the previous batch of arrests has not been made.

45 separate search operations have also been carried out.
The people involved are from the towns of Genoa, La Spezia,
Parma, Milan, Pavia, Lecco, Bergamo, Brescia, Padova, Rovigo,
Florence, Rome, Naples, Avellino, Reggio Calabria, Palermo,
Ragusa, Messina and Catania. The charges are: devastation,
sacking, arson, fabrication, possession of explosive materials,
possession of improper arms, resistance to and violence towards
public officials.
