Diego Negri

1. The court of Pordenone has rejected Diego's appeal against the charge
'association with an armed group and subversive activity.
Diego was submitted to a search of 6 hours and his personal computer
was taken away.
2. Although the court couldn't put anything on Diego they said
' We can presume that Negri, a main exponent of the extreme left, had the
co-defendant Piccin Gregorio to stay at his house for a few days in July 99.
Piccin Gregorio was found guilty of 2 terrorist attacks and came from an
organization ideologically linked to Diego's own orgnisation.
3. Diego has been charged with article 270. Bis. With a)political
orientation , b) association with an
armed group and c) having Piccin Gregorio as a guest in his house.
4. The court uses such things as presuming personal and political closeness
between Diego and Gregorio
due to Gregorio's staying at Diego's house as evidence.
5 In conclusion Diego has been charged with terrorism, not for having carried
out action of any sort but for having allowed an extreme left comrade to
sleep and eat at his house. It is clear that he has been targeted and framed
for over a decade of political struggle in his community and in the factories.

At present there are other 2 comrades in prison and there are others in Italy
which have been accused of terrorism for the same case.
The workers of 'Precari Nati' are not protesting against miscarriage of
justice. They think that the imprisonment of Diego is only one of the many
ways in which the State controls and represses its
militants and the working class in general. In this way we will not fight for
individual prisoners but
will fight against the whole prison system.

Here's some more background on Diego Negri's case - about the group he
belongs to, Precari Nati. Apologies if I've posted it before, I can't
remember.

Summary of Precari Nati's statement of "Who We Are"

Established 4 years ago, "Precari Nati" is a collective of casual workers
in and around Bologna. About a dozen members form the active core,
connected to a wider network of around forty workers. Members work in a
range of sectors: construction, manufacturing, the community sector.
Average age in the group is 25.

A regular bulletin is produced (1000 copies an issue, of which one is sent
to the Melbourne branch of the IWW), as well as pamphlets (600 copies).
Pamphlets to date have looked at seasonal work, and conditions in the
Magneti Marelli factory.

Active in their own workplaces, they place a particular emphasis upon
surveying trends within the broader labour market and class composition,
and the emergence of class struggle within these. They see casual workers
as important actors within working class struggles from below, given their
particular relationship to the labour market, work, and mainstream unions.

While Precari Nati do not fit into any one ideological pigeon hole, they
cite a range of radical experiences as influences, from the IWW and council
communism, to groups such as Socialisme ou Barbarie, Correspondence and the
Italian school of "workers' enquiries" and "class composition". Some of
their members have collaborated with the journals Collegamenti/Wobbly and
di Base, which are prominent as workplace-oriented journals within Italy's
libertarian left.
