Established in February 2000, the South Chicago Anarchist Network (SCAN) is
an open network of and for socialist anarchists from the southern parts of
Chicago, working for cooperation, solidarity, inclusiveness, openness,
grassroots democracy, plurality, tolerance, freedom, individuality, and

Our weekly meetings are open to all anarchists and close-to-anarchists in
south Chicago to discuss, initiate, and network around strategies, projects,
actions, and campaigns. (Contact us for details.)

(1) To promote the development and growth of the anarchist and
close-to-anarchist community in south Chicago. To this end, we will initiate
and support anarchist and close-to-anarchist activities, projects, groups,
infoshops, media outlets, forms of unionizing, and so on, and also promote
networking, communication, and cooperation between them.

(2) To promote the emergence, development, and strengthening of alternative
social and economic structures and institutions in south Chicago. To this
end, we will initiate and support alternative forms of organization
(grassroots democratic, cooperative, non-hierarchic, non-capitalist,
non-authoritarian etc.) in all areas of social life (activism, media,
culture, education, health care, public transportation, enterprising,
housing, banking, distribution, production etc.).
