Czech state TV (CT1 and CT2) is completely in chaos. Week ago, a new
director was been apointed. The new director is Jiri Hodac, man which is
connected with ODS, main Czech right wing party. He install a new boss of
news service, a woman who has been an adviser of prime minister from ODS.
Employee of TV refuse obedience and call that they repudiation new director
of TV and boss of news service. They have made and televise their own news
include protest against Hodac. They said that Hodac want to make right wing
news. Hodac has putted them away (they refused take allegation) and called
police to "rebels."
They occupied news room and continued in making and televising their news.
There were some supporting demonstrations before TV and squares - about 4000
people gathered there, including many famous actors, producers, film
directors etc. They had speeches against Hodac and scanned slogans like
"freedom, freedom." There are also some supporting petitions.
Czech newspapers write very much about it. Many journalists support "rebels"
and also many intellectuals. They often liken this situation to behave of
Communist party before 1989.
Four days ago, Hodac let some rooms in Czech private TV (NOVA) and started
to broadcast his version of news, but his news was very amateurish. So,
they were two version of news and it depended on your living place which one
did you get. "Rebels" still occupied news room. Day before yesterday in the
evening, Hodac switched off broadcasting. It was the first time in all
history of TV in Czech when TV doesn't work. The TV was silent to today's
evening, but "rebels" still broadcast through satellite and cable
televisions.
"Rebels" still occupy news room. The situation maybe will be solve by
Council of TV and radio broadcasting, which has meeting today.
