Join the December 31 Freedom Campaign: Freedom and Justice for PP/POWs by 2001!

Houston ABC-SG has officially launched the December 31 Freedom Campaign,
with the goal of building support, defense and freedom for Political
Prisoners and Prisoners of War by December 31, 2000.

Who are Political Prisoners and Prisoners of War?
They're people like all of us, and they've been targeted and jailed for
their organizing efforts and their battles for justice. Some have been in
prison for almost 30 years, and all of them need YOUR help to get free.

We are in a unique point in history. Many presidents have issued executive
clemency/pardons as they leave office. President Bill Clinton will do the
same, and, with the prospect of "Killer" George Bush Jr. becoming the next
president more likely, this chance for clemency may be one of the last
hopes for many PP/POWs to see freedom once again. Why December 31? Let's get
these PP/POWs free by the new year!

The attacks against organizers, however, continue, and our fight to free
ALL Political Prisoners and Prisoners of War is not over! Organizers like
former Political Prisoner Lorenzo Kom'boa Ervin are still facing
harassment. And programs like the Warchest, which sends monthly aid to
Political Prisoners and Prisoners of War in the greatest need, are critical
in a time when the PP/POWs need us most.

The goals of the December 31 Freedom Campaign are:
u	To win clemency for all federally-held (aka "Release 2000") Political
Prisoners, who are Silvia Baraldini, Hanif Shabazz Bey (Beaumont Gereau),
Veronza Bowers, Marilyn Jean Buck, Bill Dunne, Larry Giddings, Ray Luc
Levasseur, Jaan Karl Laaman, Tom Manning, Jalil Abdul Muntaqin (Anthony
Bottom), Sekou Odinga, and Mutulu Shakur, Linda Evans, Leonard Peltier and
Susan Rosenberg.
u	To win clemency for Leonard Peltier, whose appeal for clemency has been
confirmed by President Clinton as in his office
u	To win justice for the Chattanooga 3 (which includes former Political
Prisoner Lorenzo Kom'boa Ervin) in their fight
u	To raise awareness and funds for the Warchest, which sends aid to
Political Prisoners and Prisoners of War

THIS COMMUNICATION IS WORTHLESS UNLESS YOU ACT!
Let's be honest. We do not believe these PP/POWs are "criminals" and know
the United States has now and will always deny people the right to self
determination under the guise of "law." We know we all have different
opinions about solutions, but this moment in time represents an opportunity
to free the PP/POWs many of us have fought years to see the outside of the
walls. Our fliers, protests and talk mean NOTHING until we act today by
writing just a letter or making a phone call.
