Yesterday, public workers went a one day strike all
around Turkey. The action was planned and initiated
by KESK-clerk union (Confederation of Public Workers
Syndicates); it was also supported by all other labor
and clerk unions. The strike was quite successful-in
bigger cities about with 100% although it was declared
as "forbidden" by the government. Post-offices,
train-stations, schools and (except the emergency
services) hospitals were all off. Teachers, doctors and
all other office workers were marching in lots of
different places. (Pigs seemed quite puzzled about
which demo they must "police" :) )
KESK is leaded by pre-1980 socialist militants for now
who behave as "social-democrats" in worker unions; this
action must have been the most effective and massive one
since 1980.
